So the good news is that nobody other than us seems upset about us stopping the Uncensored Shows. If that's the case, we can probably disregard what follows.
We would like to continue the uncensored shows, the problem is distribution. We only want it to fall into the hands of those that
- Genuinely want to listen
- Aren't potential employers
- Will not be offended by the content
We list the show with an Explict tag on iTunes, and have peppered the webpage and download with warnings. However, there is still a level of uncertainty for us that it won't fall into the hands of people that will take it the wrong way. The content is meant to entertain. None of the dialogue that is feature is at all crafted, it's dialogue that occured through the natural course of conversation.
From an offensive standpoint I would regard a stand up set by Lisa Lampanelli, or a podcast by Adam Carolla to be more offensive than the content of our uncensored shows. I've also made the Simpsons and South Park/Family Guy comparison. Our regular shows have the appropriateness of a Simpsons episode while our Uncensored shows have the appropriateness of a South Park or Family Guy episode.
The difference between us and them is that this is not our livelihood. While we enjoy doing these shows, we do not make our living from releasing these shows, nor do we anticipate making a living from releasing these shows any time soon. However, it would seem that the best way to limit who has access to these Uncensored Podcasts is to charge for it. We're reluctant to do this for several reasons, but it may be the best approach to alleviate our concerns. If anyone else has other suggestions, we would also welcome that.
If we are to charge for the Uncensored Shows here are a few options as to how we could do it
- Pay per episode. Either through PayPal or on iTunes. This would give you access to download the copy online
- Pay per episode. Receive a CD with the Episoe in the mail. The thought process here is that it's one more step for it to be available on te internet. Someone else would have to host it.
- A pay for subscription service. We would then technically regard the Uncensored Show as premium content that is available as part of a yearly subscription to WDWFanBoys.com
For the actual cost, we would do our best to not make it prohibitive. Oddly enough I think 99 cents or $1.99 would be more than prohibitive enough if we were to opt for Paying per episode.
If any of our listeners have any other thoughts, we are all ears.
